Thotupola Mountain known as the third highest mountain in Sri Lanka. This mountain Situated in Nuwara eliya district 2,357 m above mean sea level. Thotupola Mountain has the meaning of “Landing Site “in Sinhala Language which related to a legend of Rama and Rawana. According to the people believe, long ago in India, Prince Rama and his lovely wife Sita lived in exile in the jungle. When the sister of king Ravana’s sister once visited the jungle of Rama, She was abused. Once she returned home, she complained to king Ravana about this and he swore to take revenge. Taking his mythical plane, Dadumonara, he flew to India and kidnapped Sita and returned to Sri Lanka. On his way back, he landed first at Thotupola Kanda so giving it this name.
ADAM’S PEAK
40 Km from Rathnapura, Adam’s Peak attracts the most mountain climbers in the country due to its religious significance. It’s home to the “HOLY FOOTPRINT” attributed variously to Lord Buddha, Adam, St. Thomas, or Shiva. Reaching 2,243 M from sea level, Adam’s Peak is the fourth tallest mountain in Sri Lanka.
LAKEGALA MOUNTAIN
175 Km from Colombo, In the Knuckles mountain range, Lakegala Mountain is one of the most intimidating peaks in the country. Climbers need to trek through the serene village of Mimure. Legend has it that Lakegala is where King Ravana took flight on his air chariot – the “Dhadumonara”.
ALAGALLA
Alagalla or “Potato Range” is ideal for a one – day hike. The peak offers a scenic view of the country-from Bible Rock, to the Hanthana and Knuckles mountain ranges.
ELLA ROCK
200Km east of Colombo, Ella Rock sits at 1,350 m above sea level. Temperatures hover between 20 c and 28 c. Surrounded by tea estates and cloud forests, the mist-cloaked peak offers a stunning view of the valley and surrounding hills.
HANTHANA MOUNTAIN RANGE
The Hanthana mountain range consists of more than seven peaks dotted gracefully. Among these peaks, the fourth peak is the highest and the Katusukonda is the last peak of this range. The highest one being the Uura Kanda. If You like to cover the entire Hanthana range, you can start the hike end from Kandy side. The maximum height of the range is 3800 ft. The mountain range is a favorite destination among the mountain hikers in Sri Lanka.
BATALEGALA (BIBLE ROCK)
Bible rock or Batalegala is a near 1688 feet mountain with a flat peak, from which you can see 360 views of the surrounding area. It is known as the “Bible Rock “as its surface resembles a book Bible Due to the prominent flat top surface. This Bible rock introduced as the small Sigiriya also.
